The challenge

We were asked to design an Amazon-like experience to streamline procurement of laboratory equipment. Scientists want to spend their time on research that improves lives — not on figuring out where to buy the cheapest lab product.

I set the vision: a cutting-edge shopping platform for scientists and lab technicians that simplifies buying and frees up more time for the research that matters.

The approach

I recognised adoption would make or break the tool, so I set up a user focus group and led qualitative research with scientists to define what a good solution looked like.

The team built the first prototype and we tested our ideas with broader business stakeholders. By keeping scientists in the design process throughout, I minimised the risk of building something they wouldn't use.

The outcome

After a successful start at two pilot sites, the tool is rolling out worldwide. It has improved the buying experience and its AI-driven recommendation engine lets the company save significantly by sourcing better-priced alternatives.

I also built sales analysis for procurement managers into the tool, giving them a clear view of the supply chain and the data to keep optimising procurement.
